Yoga for Cancer® or Oncological Yoga is a specially adapted yoga practice for those of us who are going through or have gone through cancer treatment. Whether you are currently in treatment or have completed it, this form of yoga is designed to support the physical, mental, and emotional needs that cancer and its treatments often bring.
The goal is to help you heal, rebuild your body and mind, and strengthen your body’s defenses.
The practice and yoga classes are active, incorporating breath work, movement, and relaxation. This yoga focuses on stimulating the immune system through movement, increasing flexibility and strength, reducing anxiety and stress, and enhancing overall well-being.
Yoga for Cancer® was developed by Camilla Strandmark, a cancer survivor and specialist nurse. It is based on the Y4C program (Yoga for Cancer) but has been modified to suit online students. Yoga is a safe method for those who wish to start moving their bodies. It can also help with many common side effects of cancer and its treatments, such as osteoporosis, lymphedema, scar tissue, stiffness, neuropathy, pain, constipation, fatigue, anxiety, fear, and much more.
